E-Bikes: Putting a Big Grin On Your Face

Look closely and you’ll start noticing them on the streets, the bike paths, and on the trails. E-bikes are one of the fastest growing segments in cycling today – based on our experience with them we think this is a trend that’s going to continue.

Why would I ride an e-bike?

  •    Want to look forward to your next morning commute instead of dreading the “Colwood Crawl”?
  •    Want to make hauling around a bunch of kids and groceries a fun outing rather than a chore?
  •    Want to arrive on time for your 8:30 class and not have to have a student line of credit just to pay for parking?
  •    Always find yourself wanting to go for another hour on that mountain bike ride?

There are many different reasons to ride an e-bike. Everyone’s needs will be slightly different but the end result is the same - more people getting out and riding bikes more often. We might be biased but we think that’s a pretty great thing.

Isn’t it cheating?

It’s not cheating, it’s just different.

It’s a common misconception that riding an e-bike is cheating in some way. The bikes we sell are a class of e-bikes called pedelecs or pedal assist bikes– basically, you pedal and the electric motor assists you (up to 32km/h – past that it’s all up to you).

You still have to pedal and work but you go faster and farther for the effort you put in. You can put in less effort, get to work on time and not sweat, or you can hammer and go farther and faster, it’s up to you. It’s just kind of like you’ve suddenly become Wonder Woman or Superman.

Aren’t e-bikes goofy looking? We think this picture speaks for itself!

Is an e-bike right for me?

Well if you’ve read this far there’s probably a good chance!

We often say here at Russ Hay’s that the “right” bike for you is the one that puts the biggest grin on your face. We welcome you to come on down to our Victoria or Sidney locations to test ride an e-bike and see for yourself if you come back with a big, goofy grin on your face!
